I’m wearing these shitty swim trunks I bought in the market as I sit here typing away on my laptop. I’ve stolen a fry or two from Annabel as her salad and chips have arrived. I just did two separate dives this morning with Corina, Annabel, and whoever else was on the boat. Elliot, the skinny dude, and that chick were our Dive Masters.
This bottle of Manica is cold but heating up fast in this mid-day heat. It’s not nearly as hot as yesterday, a nice breeze is blowing.
We dove the office, about 25 meters depth. There was this big fucking potato grouper that was just hanging around glaring at us. Those fuckers don’t give a shit. Yesterday on my dive I saw another one with a big hook in its mouth and a broken fishing line trailing behind–badass.
I saw an oceanic white-tip shark during ascent on the first dive at ‘The Office’. Probably the best find of the day. Later we went out again to Manta Reef but the visibility was only about 5-10M. On the way back we spotted a whale shark and then all donned fins and masks and jumped in the water. I swam with that seven meter long beauty, it’s big tail swaying in the water. I got a few meters from it. It was faster than all of us and slowly slipped away. A cool experience for sure. It’s better to swim with them here in Tofo because in the Philippines they bait them and guarantee an encounter, while here it is up to chance and Mother Nature if you get to see one!
It’s dive #25 for me now, a quarter century. Only three-quarters of the way from that naked 100th dive. Corina did hers two days ago. It was pretty funny, she was getting pretty nervous leading up to it. It was pretty cold, she got a lot of props for lasting 63 minutes underwater without a wetsuit. Badass.
Yesterday was awesome. I did a double tank dive and then when we got in we saw the girls from California were still here. Their flights with LAM—late and maybe—got cancelled due to technical issues. They were at the dive shop trying to sort it all out, it really fucked up their plans. They went fishing in the morning and caught a huge Wahoo fish. We made plans to go eat it at Bambo’s down by the market. The fish was fucking delicious—just amazing. It only cost 150 mets ($2) as well for dinner which included rice, some coleslaw veggies, and fries. Wow, some of the best fish I’ve had–my first real ocean to table experience. It was funny to watch the video of it being caught and hooked onto the boat while I saw it cooked and chopped up into fillets right infront of me. “After I eat” said Pablo the skipper when the girls tried to show him the video of the catch.
After dinner we went to Tofo Mar to try and get Churros but they didn’t have any. We were in the dining hall being loud obnoxious assholes, just Lauren, Orlee, Corina, Annabelle, Agnes and I. Orlee read off raunchy sex moves from Urban Dictionary like Confetti Queef. We came up with ‘pizza-boxing’ which is when you bang a girl from behind while putting the pizza box on her back for a little snack. The pizza-round is when you reach around with a slice for her to eat. Orlee orated the entry on ‘Truffle Butter‘ for us and it became an instant inside joke.
The things you can come up with as a group of five girls and one guy.
