Visiting a Stockholm Co-Working Space

September 15th, T-Bana to Bergshamra, Stockholm Sweden. 17.30

I’m sweating in this crowded subway car. I just spent the day in that hip neighborhood–soho (SoFo) or whatever. I went to the cafe and co-working space Coffice and got a lot of work done. An anonymous reviewer online said the coffee here sucks, and they were right–their coffee is terrible! But it’s a great place to get shit done.

There’s a bunch of little desk tables you can just sit at, each one with a cool little brass pipe lamp and some power-points. I joined a blonde Swedish girl at one, and she didn’t mind when I asked if I could sit there. Somewhat surprised at the English I think–not many tourists here. The table said it was reserved for members but no one seemed to mind.

I sat there a while and sipped the horrible coffee. It was in a nice blue and white ceramic cup with very similar traditional designs to the china that was handed down to my host Sofia from her grandmother.  I hear some applause at some point and I see a bunch of Swedes in the conference room–available for a fee by the hour–watching someone present a powerpoint deck. How interesting.

In front of the conference room there’s a huge plotter printer as well. I like how this co-working space easily doubles as a hip cafe but has the hardware to get real shit done. I still ponder who the hell is using a plotter in a co-working space like this though. Blurring the line between maker-space a bit here in Sweden, as they do.

I stuck around until they turned off the music and announced something in Swedish. People started to leave but I kept working. Eventually I got the point and packed up and walked down to the T-Bana to head back for dinner. That’s where I find myself penning this entry.

I really liked walking around that neighborhood today and I only spent minimal cash. Got some nice photos of Stockholm. Sofia pulled through with some great viewpoint recommendations. I only have three more days left in Stockholm before I head to Kenya. faviconsfaviconsfavicons
