Prince of Song Kola University Campus is printed on one of those green overhead highway signs as I crane my head to the left. I’m crammed in a minibus headed to the port of Krabi, and we’re moving at a pretty good clip through the forest land west of Surat Thani.
This seat doesn’t recline which is kind of a buzzkill. We were on a coach style bus before and that was pretty comfortable. A treat for an hour. There’s no rest for the wicked.
Rain is streaking off the windows at 45 degrees. “Jesus” I say as we slam over a major bump in the road. The suspension is non-existent in this vehicle. I take off my travel pillow so I can get a little more neckroom to type this out.
The weather in the Gulf of Thailand area has been pretty rainy the last couple of days. It’s like the skies opened up right after the full moon party. While the ensuing ferry ride off Koh Phangan was a pretty wild one, I haven’t been enjoying the rain.
Koh Phi Phi is an island in the Andaman Sea region, and we will be there in a couple of hours. This mini bus takes us coast to coast so we can jump on another ferry to Koh Phi Phi. The weather is all sun and the forecast is all sun all week.
While this weather is the storm before the calm, you could say that this ride is the calm before the storm. Koh Phi Phi from all accounts I’ve heard is an epic party everyday.
It’s too much effort to stay awake. I’ll have to rest my eyes before we get to the port.
Yours truly.
